Surviving a wedding with a 9 week old!

Just a quick post for this one… Mrs Heatho & I had the pleasure of being invited to our friends Dean and Rachel’s wedding day over the last weekend. This was something we had spent a long time strategising over… how close to the door do we sit… how much noise do we let Little H make… etc etc. It was also by far the longest we were going to have been out and about with Little H in one stint.

The sun was shining – Herefordshire really is a stunning county in the sunshine – and the little village of Bredwardine was playing host to the day. Somehow, we managed to make it through the wedding without incident!

The venue, Brobury House & Gardens, were very accommodating, allowing us to use the residents only bathroom to change Little H, and offering us the opportunity to feed her inside (although Mrs Heatho opted to stay in the sunshine).

Whilst she didn’t really nap al day, Little H was quiet throughout the church service, throughout the meal and throughout the speeches – all whilst wide awake! We considered this to be a parenting win!

The secret?

A dummy… ๐Ÿ˜ณ

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about how we were struggling with the dilemma of whether or not to give her one. Over the last week or so, the number of social situations we’ve been in where a dummy has been incredibly useful has grown… nobody wants a baby screaming through their nice meal out (least of all us before we had Little H), so we used the dummy to settle her in the pub when on holiday, in the church during the service and during the wedding breakfast. It’s worked for us, so we’ll carry on.

However, at home it remains a last resort. Little H falls asleep without it considerably more often than she does with it – so we’re hoping that it doesn’t become a pre-requisite to sleep. Time will tell.

In the end, Mrs Heatho took Little H home at about 8pm. As a gauge of the success of the day, I was even allowed to stay out!! I know! A pass out! Turns out Little H was nothing like as pleasant the next day… which my very over-tiredย and very slightly hungover self enjoyed hugely… (I definitely can’t drink as much as I used to!) ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚.

For now, Saturday’s wedding goes down as a win! It’s important to chalk them up so you can remember them during times when you are definitely far from winning! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป
